Sprint Fidelis® Leads PDF Print E-mail

Manufactured by Medtronic, Inc., Sprint Fidelis® Leads are cardiac electrodes that connect an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or a cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) to the heart.

Implanted surgically, the Sprint Fidelis® Leads provide protection when alterations to heart rhythms take place that may be considered dangerous.

Sprint Fidelis® Leads

In October 2007, Medtronic, Inc. suspended its worldwide distribution of the Sprint Fidelis® Leads. Moreover, Medtronic, Inc. alerted physicians that they should stop implanting the leads in patients.

Medtronic's suspension of the Sprint Fidelis® Leads was causd by the possibility of lead-fractures in their products. Furthermore, a possibility existed that such fracturing could cause the defibrillators to deliver an unnecessary shock to the patient's heart – or to fail to operate at all.
