YAZ SIDE EFFECTS LAWYER, YASMIN SIDE EFFECTS LAWYER

YAZ SIDE EFFECTS ATTORNEY, YASMIN SIDE EFFECTS ATTORNEY

The Yaz Side Effects Attorneys at The Mulligan Law Firm are now reviewing potential claims against the makers of Yaz and related birth control medications.

Varioius medical studies have been published discussing the risks of these medications and the side effects they may cause.

In April, 2011, the British Medical Journal published a Boston University study by Susan Jick that showed women who used Yaz and Yasmin have approximately two times the risk of nonfatal venous thromboembolism as those using 2nd Generation levonorgestrel contraceptives.

The Study Concludes, “This study adds to emerging evidence that use of the oral contraceptive containing drospirenone is associated with a higher risk of venous thromboembolism than are preparations containing levonorgestrel.  Perhaps now is the time for a systematic review on this topic.  In the meaintime, as no clear evidence exists to show that the use of the drospirenone pill confers benefits above those of other oral contraceptives in preventing pregnancy, treating acne, alleviating premenstrual syndrome, or avoiding weight gain, prescribing lower risk levonorgestrel preparations as the first line choice in women wishing to take an oral contraceptive would seem prudent.”

The study notes that it is already known that combined oral contraceptives containing desogestrel, gestodene, and cyproterone acetate are associated with a higher risk of venous thromboembolism than levonorgestrel contraceptives.  Limited evidence had suggested that new oral contraceptives containing the progestogen known as drospirenone carry a higher risk of venous thromboembolism.

The study adds to the knowledge base of doctors and those studying contraceptive medications that drospirenone oral contraceptives are “associated with a threefold increase in idiopathic non-fatal venous thromboembolism compared with current use of levonorgestrel pils, although the overall risk was still low.”

The study notes that “Referral, diagnostic, recall, first time user, duration of use, and switching biases, and confounding, are unlikely explanations for these findings.”   BMJ 2011;340:d2139

The study discussed here forms just one part of the various evidence from around the world about Yaz, Yasmin, Ocella, and related drugs connection to venous thrombosis and related medical tragedies for women who have taken these drugs.

The European Medicines Agency advised that Yaz, Yasmin, Beyaz, Ocella, Safyral, Loryna, Syeda, and Zarah carry a higher risk of blood clots.

In addition to venous thromboembolism, there are other serious side effects related to Yaz, Yasmin, Gianvi, and Ocella, including:

  •   Deep vein thrombosis

  •   Stroke

  •   Heart Attack

  •   Sudden Cardiac Death

  •   Kidney Problems

  •   Gall Bladder Damage / Gall Bladder Removal
